An Analysis of the INGRES Database Management System Applications Program Development Tools and Programming Environment

Abstract

This thesis examines the databases application programming environment presented by the Applications-By-Forms (ABF) subsystem of the INGRES minicomputer database management system (DBMS). The development of a bibliographical search and report application program is discussed. The operation of the application program is described. Positive and negative aspects of the ABF programming environment are examined. The use of INGRES Query Language (QUEL) and Operation Specification Language (OSL) are also discussed.
