An Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Optogalvanic Effects.

Abstract

Experimental and theoretical research progress on optogalvanic effects is reported. The most significant achievement is the development of a technique for measuring the current balance (ratio of electron current to ion current) at the surface of a cold cathode. These measurements have now been confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. Substantial progress toward a detailed quantitative understanding of the cathode fall negative glow region of cold cathode discharges is anticipated.
