Rare 2-Substituted Purine Nucleosides.

Abstract

This project is concerned with the synthesis of rare 2-substituted purine nucleosides with therapeutic potential against RNA viruses. The goals were to develop rational procedures for the synthesis of the target molecules discussed in the proposal. Synthetic procedures to eight of the target molecules were developed. Two of these compounds, both inosine analogues, were submitted for antiviral evaluation. Four others were in various stages of preparation for submission. In the course of this research investigation conceptually new synthetic methodologies in purine nucleoside chemistry were also discovered.
