Equation of State and Two-Body Correlations for Fluids of Non-Spherical Molecules.

Abstract

This report describes the work performed in the areas of thermal equilibrium properties of fluids of spherical and nonspherical molecules at very high densities. Significant progress has been achieved in the areas of (i) properties of 4He at very high pressures, (ii) the application of density functional theory to the freezing of soft spheres, (iii) Quantum Monte Carlo calculations that show a dielectric transition for a classical fluid possessing quantum internal degrees of freedom. Work on hard ellipsoids of revolution and monoatomic diatomic fluid mixtures is also reported. Keywords: Helium; Fluids of Spherical and Nonspherical Molecules; Ellipsoids of Revolution; Monoatomic Diatomic Lennard Jones Mixtures; Freezing of Soft Spheres; Functional Density Theory; Helium 4 Aziz Potential; Very High Fluid Densities; Phase Transition of Classical System with Quantum Internal Degrees of Freedom.
