The Relationship between the Knowledge Base Needed for Effective Performance by Nurse Corps Officers in Management Positions and the Knowledge Base Gained in the Manpower, Personnel and Training Analysis Program at NPS (naval Postgraduate School) and Selected Nursing Administration Programs Utilized by the Navy Nurse Corps

Abstract

This study surveyed Nurse Corps Officers in management positions by means of a questionnaire to ascertain the relationship between skills gained in Manpower Personnel and Training Analysis or in civilian Nursing Administration programs and Navy Nurse Corps job component needs. Survey respondents were asked to rate their utilization, capability and level of importance for 32 activities that form the basis of either the MPTA or civilian Nursing Administration programs, and that might be required in a particular Nurse Corps management position. The study defines which activities are of greatest and least importance to Nurse Corps managers and where these activities may be obtained. The research indicates that the educational needs of Nurse Corps Officers in management positions may be met in MPTA or in the civilian Nursing Administration program studied. However, several adjustments are recommended.
