Design of a Requirement Analysis Design Tool Integrated with a Data Dictionary in a Distributed Software Development Environment.

Abstract

The project involved the design and implementation of a requirement analysis design tool integrated with a data dictionary. The tool was developed in a distributed system consisting of a central computer that hosts a database management system, and assortment of workstations, and the communication links between the workstations and the central computer. The emphasis of the thesis was placed on the design of a user-friendly requirement analysis design tool that was implemented on a prototype workstation. The SADT (Structured Analysis and Design Technique) diagrams are created and updated at the workstation and the data dictionary definitions are extracted from these diagram definitions. These definitions are transferred between the workstation and the central computer database. Background information is provided on SADT diagrams, graphics languages, and data dictionary systems. The requirements, design, and implementation of the design tool are described in detail. Evaluation of the design tool was performed by a limited set of the projected user group. The results of the evaluation are provided. (Author)
