Abstract

This report contains initial tabulations from the 1985 DoD Survey of Officer and Enlisted Personnel conducted for the Office of the Asst Secretary of Defense for Force Mgt and Personnel by the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC). About 89,000 active-duty officers and enlisted personnel in all four Services responded to an extensive questionnaires mailed to them in Spring 1985. The questionaires asked a wide range of questions about personal and military background, economic status, family composition plans for continuing in the military given a set of alternative policies. The tables in this volume are only the first use of these data. Where possible, the tables are comparable to tables from the last major DoD-wide survey of Officers and Enlisted Personnel in 1978/9, and reported in Description of Officers and Enlisted Personnel in the U.S. Armed Forces.
