Abstract

Military compensation has been and will likely continue to be one of the most important issues of military personnel policy. This volume provides data on the level and composition military and total family income and the financial status of military households. The first tables focus on the levels and components of family income. Information on reliance of military households on spouse and other contributions to family income, and second-job income. Data on total debt and monthly expenses of military households are presented. A series of questions focus on in-kind benefits such as health care, commissaries etc, deferred compensation in the form of retirement after a minimum of twenty years of service. Tables about the current civilian labor-market experience of military members (the so-called moonlighting issue) as well as the members reports of their likelihood of finding a good civilian job.
