Adsorption Studies on Metal Surfaces by Surface Reflectance.
Abstract
Two kinds of phenomena are investigated. (1) The growth of ultra-thin films of various transition metal on metallic films has been studied by Surface Reflectance Spectroscopy and Auger Electron Spectroscopy: Silver on Aluminum, Silver on Copper, Copper on Aluminum, Palladium on Silver. The mode of growth on the one hand, the changes in the electronic properties from a metal monolayer to a metal multilayer film on the other hand are discussed. (2) The modifications of the Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) of a rough silver film are studied as a function of foreign atoms deposited on the surface. A relationship between SERS and an abnormal electromagnetic resonance at the surface is observed. Keywords: Optical properties; Thin metal films; Metal monolayers; Virtual bound leval; Epitaxial growth; Surface enhanced Raman scattering; Rough surface; Surface plasmon; Auger spectroscopy.
