A Design Optimization System with Central Database for Framed Structures.

Abstract

A Structural Design Optimization System (S-DOS) is designed and implemented using a central database and AISC code requirements for framed structures. It incorporates modern developments in structural analysis, optimum design, database management and software engineering. The use of the central database and database management system enables the system to be divided into several independent modules. The modules interact through a predesigned database. This type of modular organization of the system makes it easy to create, modify and maintain a module with minimal influence on other modules. Moreover, both the modular organization of the system and the use to the database management system enable the user to solve large scale problem with reasonable computer memory. Program S-DOS is developed to optimize general structural systems. In this document however, it is implemented to optimize framed structures.
