Abstract

This report discusses the evolution of standardized joint military terminology into the current Joint Chiefs of Staff Publication 1 (JCS Pub-1): DoD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms. An overview of explains the extent of its use, format, and organization. Results of a student survey conducted during 1986 at the Air War College highlighted the need for greater awareness and use of the JCS Pub-1. Discussion is presented to portray standard military terminology as an essential tool to be mastered and used by all military professionals.
