An Antenna Array System for Target Simulation in the DREO Electronic Warfare Engagement Simulation Facility.
Abstract
In the Electronic Warfare Engagement Simulation Facility at Defence Research Establishment Ottawa, arrays of equally spaced dipole radiating elements are installed in an RF anechoic chamber and are used to simulate the azimuth and elevation position of radar targets and jammers. This report presents the design, construction, assembly, and final testing of two new arrays of 256 and 16 elements, installed to augment the capability of an existing 64 element dipole array. Special attention has been given to design and construction details which maximize the bandwidth, flexibility, and maintainability of the array system. A key component is a novel RF switching matrix permitting the realization of virtual elements, one between each pair of real elements, thus doubling the target position resolution obtainable from the real elements alone.
