Fielding and Evaluation of a Nondevelopmental Eyewear (Gargoyles) Tradename.

Abstract

During the latter half of 1985, a nondevelopmental ballistic eyewear for emmetropes was fielded and evaluated by various Army and Marine units. The test participants in these units were each issued a pair of clear and a pair on tinted eyewear, each with its own carrying case and two different types of headbands. The objectives of this evaluation were to determine user acceptance of the eye armor, its carrying case and the headbands; to identify design characteristics which could be improved; to determine service suitability; and to determine the durability of the eyewear and accessory items. overall, the results indicated that the eye armor was acceptable to the entire test population; however, the eye armor was much more acceptable to soldiers than marines.
