Expanded Survey and Analysis of the Engine-Generator Set Database.

Abstract

This report documents efforts taken to upgrade an existing Engine-Generator Set Database. Both the comprehensiveness and efficiency of the database were upgraded. Comprehensiveness of the database was enhanced by incorporating information on the military standard equipment of US armed forces and of key allied military forces; by resurveying firms that were previously surveyed; and by identifying and surveying important US and other free-world manufacturers that had not been included in the earlier survey. Efficiency of the database was upgraded by converting the database from R:base 5000 to System V, the most recent generation of R:base software. Other improvements included revising the software program to increase the speed of database searches and to increase the flexibility of screen display and report rpint-out options. The database was further improved by analyzing its important human factors characteristics, and making improvements where needed, to make the program easier to use. Keywords include: Electric power; Mobile tactical power sources; Engine-generator sets; Market survey; Database development; Engine-driven generators; Diesel; Gasoline; and Gas turbine.
