Research on Combined Hardware Software Reliability Models. Volume 1. Overview and Summary. Volume 2. Approximating the Availability of Complex Systems with Built-in-Test and Hardware-Software Interaction. Volume 3. The Availability of a Single Element with Built-in-Test: (An Analytical Approach). Volume 4. Simplification of Markov Models of Availability.
Abstract
This is a four volume final report describing the accomplishments under this research contract. The first volume summarizes the research performed, lists papers, reports, talks, and other professional activities supported in part by this research, summarizes the accomplishments, and makes suggestions for continuation of the work. The remaining volumes report the research results. The objective of the work was to formulate and solve a realistic Markov model for an embedded computer system for a typical command, control, communication and information processing system. Such a model must include the effects of hardware and software errors, built in test, and distributed computers, resulting in a very complex model. Thus, a large portion of this study concentrates on the embedded problem of simplifying and approximating complex Markov models. The four volumes comprising this final report are listed below: 1) Overview and Summary; 2) Approximating the Availability of Complex Systems with Built-Test and Hardware-Software Interaction; 3) The Availability of a Single Element with Built-In-Test: (An Analytical Approach); and 4) Simplication of Markov Models of Availability.
