A Graphics Environment Supporting the Rapid Prototyping of Pictorial Cockpit Displays

Abstract

Attention was focused on the interactive construction of pictorial type cockpit displays from libraries of cockpit displays and symbology. Implementation was based on an object-oriented programming paradigm. This approach provided a natural and consistent means of mapping abstract design specifications into functional software. Implementation was supported by an object-oriented extension to the 'C' programming language. Although this investigation addressed a specific application, the resulting graphic environment is applicable to other areas requiring the rapid prototyping of pictorial displays.
