Prototype Evaluation of Overhead Covers for Individual Fighting Positions.

Abstract

This report presents the summation of effort to further develop three Overhead Covers for Individual Fight Position (OHC-IFP) concepts: Turtle Shell, Collapsible Scissor, and Fabric Covered Framework for Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Results of this effort indicated that the Turtle Shell design was the most desirable and the Fabric Covered Framework design was the second most desirable.All three met the specified requirements,except the Turtle Shell design was one pound over the specified 10 pound weight. Estimated unit production costs are 42.00 for the Turtle Shell, $70.00 for the Fabric Covered Frame, and $250 for the Collapsible Scissors. If future units are to be procured, some change to improve all three concepts were recommended including competitive procurement to reduce unit production costs.
