A Proposed Methodology for the Spatial Characterization of Foliage Backgrounds.

Abstract

The role of camouflage patterns is briefly described, and the need for quantification of visual texture in this context developed. A procedure is described for developing a perceptually-based measure of the similarity of foliage textures. The procedure is based on first determining the perceptual dimensions underlying judgements of texture similarity, followed by the derivation of mathematical descriptors of these dimensions, based on digital encodings of textures.
