Klystron Transmitters,

Abstract

In contemporary powerful transmitters of decimeter and microwaves multicavity floating klystrons extensively are used. Such klystrons have output power from several watts to tens of kilowatts in the regime of continuous oscillations and to tens of megawatts in the pulsed operation. They find basic use as the final stages of transmitters. Large amplification, characteristic to klystrons with four and more cavities (more than 30 dB), leads from previous stages of transmitter work on considerably smaller power level. The construction of these stages is simplified thereby and their energy indices to a small degree affect overall efficiency of transmitter. The qualitative characteristics of transmitter are also in essence determined by the characteristics of the final stage on the klystron. Therefore, examining the work of klystron transmitters, first of all one should be acquainted with the special features of the multiple cavity klystrons, their parameters and characteristics. In this brochure principles of operation of floating klystrons in final stages of powerful transmitters are stated. (Russian Translations).
