Modeling Approaches and Systems Related to Structured Modeling.

Abstract

This companion to the author's paper An Introduction to Structured Modeling discusses modeling approaches by other authors and some of the modeling systems available as alternatives for at least some of the functions to which a structured modeling system aspires. It is an expansion of the brief discussion of this topic in the mentioned paper, with which the reader is assumed to be familiar. The categories of discussion are: 1) Relational database systems; 2) GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System); 3) PLATOFORM (Planning Tool Written in DATA FORM); 4) Other modern mathematical programming systems; 5) IFPS and OPTIMUM; 6) ANALYTICOL; 7) Conceptual graphs; 8) Discrete event simulation; 9) Graph grammar-based systems; and 10) Special purpose systems.
