Multi-Input/Multi-Output Designated Eigenstructure (MODES): A Computer-Aided Control System Design Program.

Abstract

The design engineer can specify the closed-loop response of a system, including both the modes and mode shapes, with the eigenstructure assignment approach to system synthesis. This effort was to create an interactive computer-aided control system design program to enable the designer to use the modern control approach to design a control system with specified response characteristics, or to come as close to the to the ideal as possible. With the program MODES, the design engineer can easily calculate the feedback gains needed to give the controlled system the optimum response characteristics by specifying the desired eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The singular value decomposition is used to accomplish this. Keywords: Thesis; Flight control systems; Control theory.
