A Prototype Expert System Advisor for Satellite Support Scheduling.

Abstract

This report documents the research conducted to develop a prototype expert system advisor for scheduling satellite supports. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the feasibility of applying expert system technology to scheduling satellite supports. The Global Positioning System satellite program is used as the model program for the research. The development process included three main phases. First, knowledge engineering was conducted to acquire the facts, rules and heuristics the expert uses to schedule the supports. Second, an expert system development tool is selected and a system design established. Third, the expert system is built using the selected tool and tested using cases of schedules prepared by the expert. Finally, the results of the research are presented with recommendations for future work. Keywords: Thesis; Artificial intelligence. (Author)
