Growth of Device Quality Bulk Single Crystal of Pb-K-Niobate (PKN) for SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave)-Devices and Electro-Optical Applications.

Abstract

During the course of this research, in which growth of device quality single crystal of (PKN) was of primary importance, our experience and first hand knowledge gained in PKN growth enabled us to discover an additional new ferroelectric material in the lead oxide (.) lead niobate series. It is Potassium-doped lead niobate having super-lattice pyrocholore structure. This program helped us greatly in learning the various techniques for the growth of ferroelectric crystal, in general, and PKN, KTN, Pb-niobate etc. in particular. This has led to the discovery of four new ferroelectric members of the PKN family and one new member in the Pb-niobate series.
