Electromagnetic Description of the Two Stream Instability in a Relativistic Electron Beam,

Abstract

The influence of electromagnetic effects on the two stream instability in a relativistic electron beam propagating through a collisionless plasma channel is examined, and closed algebraic dispersion relation for the complex eigenfrequency w is obtained. It is shown that electromagnetic effects can have a strong stabilizing influence on the two stream instability in a relativistic electron beam, drastically enhancing the critical beam current for instability.
