High Temperature Oxidation and Electrochemical Studies Related to Hot Corrosion.

Abstract

This report describes the 1st years efforts upon a number of processes related to hot corrosion. Total conductivities of pure sodium sulfate, Na2SO4 doped with nickel oxide and Na2SO4 doped with ferric oxide were measured at 900 C as a function of the activity of sodium monoxide. Partial electronic conductivies were also measured for the same systems utilizing the Wagner-Hebb type polarization cell. It was found that the total D.C. conductivity of pure Na2SO4 was of the order of .05 (1/cc) and varied only slightly with changes in the activity of Na2O.
