Bonuses, Wages, Training Costs, and Quit Rates: A Three Stage Least Squares Approach

Abstract

This report analyzed the impact of Regular Military Compensation (RMC) and Selective Reenlistment Bonuses (SRB) on quit rates and that of quit rates, training costs, and potential civilian wages of soldiers on SRB in a system of three stage least squares regressions. The results reveal that an increase in RMC and SRB reduces quit rates. Also, SRB is being rightly increased with an increase in training costs and civilian wages in both combat and non- combat arms groups of occupations. Keywords: Retention, Economics, Quit rates, Military wage, Civilian wage, Military Occupational Specialities, Career Management Fields.
