U.S. Army Institute of Dental Research Annual Progress Report, Fiscal Year 1982 (1 October 1981-30 September 1982)

Abstract

Management of Dental Injury and Combat Density. The objectives are to obtain information by the techniques of clinical and basic research on injuries and diseases, except communicable diseases, commonly seen in soldiers, especially in field operations and overseas. Emphasis is placed on diseases and injuries that are receiving little or no study by civilian research groups, and the work is aimed at providing better preventive measures as well as treatment. Combat Maxillofacial Injury. The objectives are to develop simplified procedures for the care of complex maxillofacial wounds and injuries which require long time-consuming procedures for reconstruction; to achieve minimal morbidity rates from oral emergencies, preventable oral disease, and restorative failures; and to develop more efficient, simplified, effective clinical and laboratory techniques which will result in better utilization of manpower and a saving in time and materiel. Medical Defense Against Chemical Agents. The objectives and purposes are the development of the basic scientific data required for systems of solider CW agent antidotes, soldier/patient decontamination, and medical management of CW casualties.
