Caliber .22 Rimfire Blank System for M16 Rifles.

Abstract

This study's determinations successfully demonstrated the utilization of a caliber .22 rimfire blank system as a substitute for the standard 5.56-mm, M200 blank cartridge in the M16 rifles. Compatability of the prototype rimfire blank system in the M16 rifles was firmly established and the possibility of a substantial cost savings realized. Further efforts to refine the configuration for competitive procurement and fielding will be performed.
