Battalion Task Force Logistics Model (BATLOG) Using SIMSCRIPT II.5,

Abstract

A potential problem exists in providing logistical support to teams within maneuver units with the combat service support assets assigned. Recovery operations and transportation of ammunition and fuel may be changed significantly as a result of organizing teams in a battalion task force. The objective of this research is to determine if organizing a battalion task force into teams has a significant impact on logistics. A SIMSCRIPT II.5 simulation model is developed to generate data allowing the testing of hypotheses. The experimental results show that the effectiveness changes when pure battalions are compared with task forces and also when companies are compared with teams. It is concluded, therefore, that organizing battalion task forces into teams does have a significant impact on logistics. The model developed is intended to be the basis for a battalion level logistic model to be used by the United States Army Logistics Center and the Training and Doctrine Command Analysis Center.
