Synthesis of Energetic Single Phase and Multi-Phase Polymers.

Abstract

Investigation of the synthesis of polyformals from nitro- and fluorodiols was continued. Factors affecting the molecular weight distribution of hexafluoropentanediol and 2-tri-fluoromethyl-3-oxaheptafluoroheptanediol polyformals were determined. In the polycondensation of 4,4-dinitroheptanediol with formaldehyde, monomer concentration, solvent, type of Lewis acid catalyst, and reaction temperature were the important parameters affecting polymer yield and properties.
