MIL-STD-1660 Test of Functional Pallets Systems, Incorporated Plastic Pallet.

Abstract

The U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and School (USADACS) has been tasked by U.S. Army Armament, Munitions and Chemical Command (AMCCOM), SMCAR-ESK, Rock Island, IL to investigate various, less costly methods of unitizing ammunition loads. This test is an evaluation of the Functional Pallet Systems, Inc. of Grand Rapids, MI 40x48-inch plastic pallet and its suitability of transporting ammunition. The evaluation of this pallet is based on MIL-STD-1660, Design Criteria for Ammunition Unit Loads dated 8 April 1977. The loaded unitization was subjected to compression and transportation simulation tests. The pallet skids disintegrated during the transportation simulation portion of the test.
