Systems Testbed for Avionic Research (STAR) Automation Concept Development.

Abstract

The primary purpose of the work performed under this contract has been to develop an automation and avionics integration design concept permitting single-pilot operations. Recommendations for that design concept are provided in this report. These recommendations were derived through analyses of the U.S. Army Scout and Utility mission concepts, identification of suitable automation-candidate functions for the performance of those missions, assessment of automation technologies available, and, finally, the establishment of system design option preferences. Ultimately, these recommendations will impact the definition of design specification requirements for the NUH-60 Systems Testbed for Avionics Research (STAR) aircraft. Keywords: Cockpit automation; Crew workload; Controls/displays; Expert systems; Voice interactive avionics.
