Doctrinal Issues Concerning US Navy and US Marine Corps Forces in the Airland Battle.

Abstract

Strategic mobility requires a force in readiness capable of rapid response to a broad spectrum of contingencies to meet any probable threat. In the future Navy and Marine Corps forces will be required to conduct sea, air and land warfare in a theater of operations with US Army land and Air Force forces in a joint environment. Joint Force Planning will require staff planners to have a unique awareness of the doctrine and operational capabilities of the forces employed to plan for air space management, protection of land forces/fleet and the command and control necessary to accomplish the deep attack strategy. To be effective, joint operations dictate that our forces at the tactical level are capable of planning, allocating, coordinating and integrating supporting arms assets. It remains to be seen if the US military services can develop joint doctrine, techniques and Standing Operating Procedures for joint operations that will enable our forces to destroy the enemy and win the war on the modern battlefield.
