Wake Roll Up of Trailing Vorticity.

Abstract

This research applies the Biot-Savart law to the trailing system of vortices from a propeller. A computer program was developed which considers the interaction of the shed vortices of the same sign, e.g. the tip bor the hub. The roll up of the vortex sheet appears to occur rather quickly but the geometry tends to change very slowly after one revolution of the sheet. While only one portion of the program to allow the incorporation of the entire shed system is described in appendix. It appears that the effects are significant only near the trailing edge and in the regions where the bound vorticity is rapidly changing. Keywords: Propeller hubs; Propeller blade tips; GHR(General Hydromechanics); Vortex shedding; Computer programs.
