Evaluation of Ada Environments. Chapter 8.

Abstract

The experiment presented in this document does not use the evaluation method developed for the other experiments. It consists of compiling and executing the Ada Compiler Evaluation Capability (ACEC) test suite that has been assembled by the Institute for Defense Analyses. The purpose of the experiment was to provide a method of evaluating Ada compilers, as a supplement to the main experiments of the project. The decision to make use of an existing test suite was driven by the desire to expend minimum effort in this supplementary activity. In retrospect, it has taken more effort than expected to employ the ACEC only to produce quite modest results. The major elements of the experiment are: 1) the ACEC collection of Ada test programs; 2) the package of support software provided in the ACEC; 3) the implementation-dependent support software developed for the experiment; and 4) the analysis program developed for the experiment.
