A Compact Bit Slice Writable Control Store for Experimental Information Processors,

Abstract

The writable control store described in this memorandum is a minimal realization of a high speed controller which is required to exploit fully the potential of experimental information processors. Together with the microprocessor and assembler software it is a system which is versatile enough to be used in a number of place in the same system while being easily programmable for each application and required configuration using the same technique in each instance. Experimental processor PCBs may be made up with a general area for the main logic and a dedicated area for the WCS, allowing expansion for a maximum number of slices as required. This arrangement would free the hardware designer from the task of designing specific, dedicated logic for each board, leaving him to concentrate on the optimization of information flow within the system.
