Material Properties Test Number 2. Data Report.

Abstract

As part of the Cratering and Related Effects -- Dry Soil (CARES Dry) Test program, the Air Force Weapons Laboratory conducted the MP no. 2 test. The purpose of the test was to determine the dynamic material properties of the soil in situ. The test consisted of a spherical charge buried 20 m deep, containing 20 tons of nitromethane. The soil surrounding the charge was instrumented with stress and velocity gages, and accelerometers. This report contains all data from the test and an assessment of the validity of those data. Keywords: Ground shock; In situ testing; Dynamic material properties; Explosive test.
