Relative Value of the Third-Order Nonresonant Susceptibility of Water.

Abstract

The ration of the third-order nonresonant susceptibility of water to the nitrogen nonresonant susceptibility has been measured by Coherent Antistokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS). The measured ration (2.27) appears in good agreement with the value (2.24) obtained by dc-electric-field-induced optical second-harmonic generation. Probable error in the measurement is estimated to be about 12%. Keywords: Water; Coherent; Antistokes; Raman spectroscopy; Susceptibility; Propellant; Product.
