Assessment of Angular Weaving for Turbine Components.

Abstract

This report evaluates the ability of current textile weaving looms to manufacture fiber pre-forms for composite components of gas turbine engines. It is concluded that no current loom has the capability to automate the fabrication of components with angular fiber orientation coupled with through-the-thickness reinforcement. The company intends to pursue the design of such a 3-dimensional loom through a separate contract.
