Maximum Theoretical Specific Gravity of Bituminous Paving Mixtures.

Abstract

To calculate the percentage of voids in a bituminous pavement mixture, it is necessary to determine the maximum theoretical specific gravity of the mixture. Test procedures being used to determine the maximum theoretical specific gravity of bituminous mixtures made with absorptive aggregates have proved to be troublesome. The specified procedure has also been found to be questionable when used for recycled asphalt pavement testing. This report discusses and compares test results and void calculations when different test procedures are used t determine the maximum theoretical specific gravity of absorptive aggregates n bituminous mixtures. Keywords: Apparent specific gravity, Bulk impregnated specific gravity.
