Experimental Results from Railgun Firings Involving Magnetic Flux Probes.

Abstract

In the Magnetic RAPID Plasma Intensity Profiles (MRAP) series of railgun firings, the voltages induced in small solenoidal probes mounted in different positions and orientations along the barrel were measured to gain a better understanding of the current density and magnetic field in a plasma armature. A summary of the results obtained from the Probes is presented in this techincal note. In addition, results obtained from the image analyses of streak films are presented together with some of the diagnostic records taken during the series.
