The Hospital Organizational Structure and the Department of Nursing in the United States Air Force.

Abstract

Air Force Chief Nurses are currently functioning in a variety of organizational structures; many of which do not comply with criteria established by AFR 168-4. The purpose of this study is to establish similarities or differences, using data received from an approved survey, between the chain of command and authority lines within Air Force medical facilities, and to discover if current, on-line organizational policies and procedures are effective. The study concludes that 99% of the nurse respondents want to be equal members of the hospital's executive management team. This study recommends revision of AFR 168-4 to mirror these responses.
