Roles, Missions, and Politics: The USAF and the B-36, 1945-1950

Abstract

This paper describes the political contests between the Air Force and the other services in the period immediately after World War II, culminating in the so-called Admirals Revolt against the cancellation of the supercarrier United States and the emergence of the B-36 as the nation's primary nuclear delivery system.
