Reanalysis of Beach Erosion Board Technical Memorandum Number 94.

Abstract

The data of eight tests of model tidal inlets were reanalyzed to determine if further contribution could be made to the knowledge of inlet modeling. The reanalysis showed that the area of the model inlet channel was related to the tidal prism but that the relationship determined differed from a relationship previously determined. The reanalysis also showed that the minimum channel area was approximately 80 percent of the average channel area. The Keulegan method was found to be an effective tool for predicting model inlet behavior. The channel roughness in terms of Manning's 'n' was found to be in the range of 0.022 to 0.024. Inlet current velocities, lagoon water-surface time histories, littoral measurements, and geometric characteristics are presented. Keywords: Hydraulic models; Inlets (Waterways); Tidal inlets.
