Urban Effects on Windspeed in the United States.
Abstract
Urban influences normally weaken strong winds and cause weak winds to increase in speed. Increased urbanization should cause a decrease of standard deviation of speed, and this was observed. Mean speeds in fog at most locations are lower than mean speeds when visibilities are greater. The trends of mean windspeed in fog during a few decades were positive at two American stations where the trends of overall mean speed were negative. The positive trend in fog at a third station was much larger than the positive trend of the overall mean speed. This corroborated previous work with European data. (Author).
