Description of the Naval Research Laboratory Limited Area Dynamical Weather Prediction Model.

Abstract

The fields of atmospheric modeling and numerical weather prediction are ever changing and evolving. The primitive equation, quasi-hydrostatic model developed by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) described here is in a continuous state of development and improvement. The purpose of this report is to describe the basic equations, numerical scheme and parameterized physics of the model as it was of May 1986. A brief discussion of the computer code is also included for prospective users. Further modifications and improvements to the model and code made after May 1986 have not been incorporated in this documentation.
