A VLSI Proposal with Application to Signal Processing and Coding.

Abstract

The era of the VLSI arrived, and its impact is evident in many areas of technology. The development of VLSI devices presents many new challenging areas of research. In this progress report attention is focused first on the algorithm development, the architecture and the circuit design of new and novel VLSI devices which can be used in signal processing and the related area of coding. Secondly, concern is directed towards better utilization of the computer-aided design tools needed for the design of signal processing VLSI chips. Finally, new test methods were derived and utilized in the implementation of this special class of VLSI chips. The common thrust of the work is in the design of (Systolic-Array-Based) VLSI chips based on improved algorithms to implement the Fermat theoretic transforms. Keywords include: Finite field, Fermat number, Number-theoretic transform, Cyclic convolution, and Digital filtering.
