Abstract

This document presents an invited lecture at the ACM Conference on the History of Scientific and Numeric Computations, May 13-15, 1987, Princeton, New Jersey. It present some basic subjective observations about the history of numerical methods in Czechoslovakia and USSR up to the mid 60s.
