UNAMACE (Universal Automatic Map Compilation Equipment) Software Improvements.

Abstract

At the request of the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA), the U.S. Army Engineer Topographic Laboratories (USAETL) performed and analysis of the Universal Automatic Map Compilation Equipment (UNAMACE) software to determine why certain systematic errors occur in the elevations produced by the compilation process. The analysis uncovered (1) three significant software errors, (2) a deficiency in part of the UNAMACE algorithm and (3) a severe reduction in compilations speed compared to the original design speed. The software has been changed to eliminate the software errors, to improve the accuracy of estimating the elevation of points to be correlated and to increase the compilation rate by a factor of two.
