Cultural Resources Management Plan: Coralville Lake, Iowa.

Abstract

This report summarizes 8 archaeological and geomorphological investigations at Coralville Lake. The studies include survey, testing, and geomorphic investigations. A comprehensive data file presents detailed, site specific information for those archaeological sites investigated as part of this study. An ancillary atlas volume incorporates 1:24,000 scale maps of the project area, archaeological sites, landforms and ages, locations of high and low archaeological potential, locations of all subsurface investigations, land use, and an index to detailed (1:7200) maps subjected to intensive survey etc. The mapping was accomplished with a computer aided drafting and design (CADD) system so that maps may be periodically updated as new information is available. This report summarizes the survey of 40% of the Coralville Lake project surface area, sub surface investigations, landscape analyses, archaeological site predictive model and identification and evaluation of 266 archaeological sites. Recommendations for management of the cultural resources of the project lands are provided.
